The Wild, Wild Palomar Zone Camporeehappened on October 22-24, 2021 @ Mataguay. Troops from SDIC and surrounding councils attended. Positive scouting was evident throughout. Congratulations to all the ribbon recipients.
Walter led the Webelos Day that happened on October 23, 2021 @ Mataguay. Lots of Webelos enjoying the highlights of Mataguay and having lots of fun. Positive scout spirit was everywhere. Webelos Day video.
2022 Events
All about STEM Merit Badge Day happened on May 14, 2022 at Solatube International in Vista. Scouts learned hands-on as they completed the requirements for four BSA STEM Merit Badges.
Blast off with Webelos Walter at the BSA Space Derby that launched on October 15, 2022 at the Vista Optimist Club. Cub Scouts of all ranks and their friends brought their official BSA Space Derby rockets and raced again and again. All receiving the official BSA Cub Scout Space Derby award to wear on their uniform. Decorative and Spirit Awards were delivered later to those winners.
Step Right Up was the Palomar Zone Camporee that Carnival’ed on October 21-23, 2022 @ Mataguay. Troops enjoyed the Carnival atmosphere and earned various ribbons. Congratulations to all!
2023 Events
April 15, 2023 Dozens of scouts participated in the Palomar Zone Be Prepared Merit Badge Day at Solatube International in Vista. A San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Deputy gave a presentation as well. Click here for the SD Union Tribune article.
August 23, 2023 What better way to learn and achieve the BSA Fingerprinting Merit Badge than doing it with deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department who not only provided all the elements for the approximately 40 scouts to learn and earn the merit badge, but also taught them the forensics in retrieving fingerprints from objects, careers in STEM, careers in law enforcement and the BSA Explorer program.
October 7, 2023 the STEM Merit Badge Day at Solatube International in Vista registered 50 scouts from all over California earning the Engineering Merit Badge and with prerequisites completed, the Inventing and Sustainability Merit Badges earned as well. Scouts learned hands-on and how they can make a difference in choosing STEM careers.
October 13th -15th, 2023 the 2023 Palomar District Spooktacular Camporee at Mataguay Scout Ranch was a huge success, with over 200 in attendance including 155 Scouts, representing 24 Patrols from 13 Units from various districts in the Council. Planning has already begun for the 2024 Camporee.
